This was taken on 04-26-2001 while on the Rainbow Helicopter tour.
I had some problems with the glare on the window from time to time.
This is a pretty good shot of the crater. Koko in Hawaiian means, "blood".
You can see the Kalanianale Highway running along the coast below the crater.

This photo was taken on 04-29-2001 while half way on top of the Hanauma
Bay crater. Rich and I decided to hike up the military road that takes you all across
the rim of the crater. This shot is about half way to the top and we stopped at this
point because it was EXTREMELY windy and we didn't want to go any further.
It was so windy that I had to sit down to take this shot. You can see the road leading
down to the parking area for Hanauma Bay, just off to the right. It was very cloudy this
day, which doesn't make for a good photograph.

This photo was taken from Makapu'u on the "road" coming down from the
Makapu'u Lighthouse. This is a good shot of the collapsed side of the crater.
This was taken on 04-26-2001 in the morning.

This was taken from the helicopter also. You can see Koko Head Crater
just off to the left of Hanauma Bay in this photograph.

Koko Crater is a cinder cone remaining from the last active volcano that occured
on O'ahu. This crater is the tallest tuff ring in Hawaii measuring 1,207 feet in height.
The sides of the crater drop into the Molokai Channel. This area does not have any
protection from any offshore reefs which causes very rough and dangerous seas. The
seas at the local Sandy Beach park can be very dangerous at times. Inside the crater is
the Koko Crater Botanical Garden and visitors can hike or drive through these gardens.
Hiking trails are available to the top of the crater (which I wish we had the time to do, but
didn't). This crater is very large and impressive.

Directions:
From Waikiki take H1 east bound. Follow the sign to Hanauma Bay, the Halona
Blowhole and Sandy Beach. Koko Crater is on the left side of the road and you cannot
miss it. It is about a 20 minute drive from Waikiki.
