The Makapu'u Coast line by the Makapu'u Lighthouse. You can see
Rabbit Island in this photograph. You can barely see the lighthouse on the
very tip of the cliff edge above. This was taken from my helicopter ride.
Please see my Aerial Photographs page also. You can see the road that
you park your car beside and then you have to hike the 2 mile "road" trail up
(and I mean UP) to the far point at the lighthouse. You park just off the road
by the gate at the trail head. The road is the Kalanianaole Highway (Hwy 72).

The famous Makapu'u Lighthouse. Please visit
my Makapu'u Lighthouse page also.

Koko Head Crater, just east of Hanauma Bay as seen from the Makaupu'u Head. The photograph on the
right is the surf (seen to the far left of the photo on the left) along Kealakipapa Valley and the Wawamalu Beach.
Just off the crater along the shore is also the Halona Blowhole and Sandy Beach Park. Chris and Devin both saw
a humpback whale jump just off shore while they were at Sandy Beach on Thursday April 26, 2001. Rich and I did not
ever stop at Sandy Beach because the ocean was just way too rough. Chris and Devin both went in the water at Sandy
Beach (not see in any of these photos but is in the general area of Koko Head Crater). Local surfers told the boys not to
go in the water because they would die and so did a life guard. While the life guard was telling them he cannot keep them
from going in the water and that they might die if they go in, is when Chris and Devin saw the whale jump. Chris and Devin
both went in the water anyway and got pounded. It is extremely windy along this part of O'ahu, especially on the observation
area above the Makapu'u Lighthouse AND on the 2 mile hiking road going up to it.

Just below and to the north of the Makapu'u Lighthouse observation area. You can see, along the coast in the middle of this photograph,
the Sea Life Park Hawaii and the Makapu'u Beach Park. This was taken from the observation area, also used for whale watching. The photo
on the right was taken seveal days after the one on the left.

Rabbit Island (Manana Island) as seen from the observation area above
the Makapu'u Lighthouse.
